SPACEUNITED.europe is a research and design practice focussing on public spaces.
We accelerate spatial emancipation.
We accelerate spatial emancipation.
The research and design
practice spaceunited.europe was launched in 2021 while we were in Madrid
together. Since we usually don’t reside in the same city, we understand it as an evolving platform on which we can explore our ideas and shared interests. In essence, our approach uses urban strategies and tactical interventions
to tackle the lack of transparency in planning processes and the disempowerment
of citizens in shaping their shared spaces. Our overarching vision is to
empower communities by providing them with dynamic infrastructures, facilitating
citizen engagement and enabling them to actively shape the identity of their
neighborhoods and cities through collective actions.
We envision inclusive strategies for spatial production and work towards the emancipation of citizens to take ownership of their environments. Therefore, we explore a variety of projects that span architecture, urban planning, research, and community engagement. These include exhibitions on human interactions in public space, concepts for interventions, publications on spatial theory, research on the study of social space and the design of urban transformations, an interdisciplinary collaboration between our past faculty of architecture and the faculty of communication design resulting in an elective course on tactical urbanism interventions, as well as consulting for policy makers and cities.
